Direct Spark Ignition (DSI) is an automatic ignition system used in gas-fired furnaces that eliminates the need for a standing pilot flame by using an electronic spark igniter to ignite the main burner directly. Not using a continuously burning pilot flame makes it more energy efficient, resulting in energy savings. A DSI is reliable and incorporates safety features such as flame sensors to detect the presence of a flame. If the flame is extinguished during operation, the system will automatically shut off the gas flow to prevent the buildup of unburned gas.
